The Wood River Mountain Bike has started the registration process for the Fall 2024 MTB IICL/NICA Season. Our season commences on July 29, 2024 and continues until the second week in October. This is the initial phase of registration and we are anticipating a full roster by April 15, 2024. In order for our team to prepare for the season, we are asking you to pre-register your child so we can determine how many riders are interested in the team and the amount of possible parent coaches.
Our program has demonstrated great success throughout the years due to the community effort that is required to run the team. These members are volunteers on the team and serve as the backbone for our team.
The selection process for the Middle School Team is as follows: 1 – parents who commit to coach for the team have highest priority, 2 – siblings have priority, 3 – parents who are willing to volunteer throughout the season, 4 – BCSD students have priority (see BCSD Board Policy 600), 5 – First come- first served, and 6 – we will use a lottery system for all others. The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) Pit Zone opens April first – your rider will be invited to this page once on the team. You will also be invited to the WR MTB Team TeamSnap portal (all team communication goes through this). The WR MTB Team has developed a weighted system to accept new riders to the team based on the following criteria:
- Parent as Coach Level 1-3 (see coaching)
- Sibling on the team
- Volunteer Coordinator (see below)
- Parent Volunteers (see below)
- BCSD Student (see below Policy 600)
- First come first serve
Parent Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Coordinator – The team is in need of a middle and high school parent volunteer coordinator. This position involves organization of activities, events, the race PitZone, and the organization of all volunteer positions. The person who takes on this position should be someone who has been part of the team for a minimum of one year.
Pit Zone – Take-down and organize and load the trailer at the end of the race: at the end of the race, our team will need to take down all the tents and accouterments required for the race and place them neatly back in the team team trailer. Obviously, one person cannot handle all this on his/her own and it takes a team to accomplish this task. Mike and Sonja Huntsman have volunteered to be in charge of this, but we need many more parent volunteers to assist.
Food at Races – Our riders, coaches and parents all need healthy food during the race on Saturday. When each parent brings a few items to the food tent, then we have enough food for the entire team to enjoy. Many teams cook at the races, but due to limited space and time, our team prefers to eat meals that are easy to make and digest. The volunteer for this assignment will need to calculate the total amount of items needed (fruits, vegetables, snacks, bread, cheese, cold cuts, etc) and have parents sign-up to bring them in TeamSnap. Along with that, they will need to organize, with other parent volunteers, the food tent in order for our riders, parents and coaches to eat throughout the day. This takes a lot of planning and organization – similar to preparing for a river trip with all your friends.
Team Swag Sales – During the races, our team sells shirts, hats, sweatshirts and socks for parents and riders to enjoy. The Pit Zone will have an area set-up for two parents to sell these items. Parents can set-up for short periods of time or during the entire race day (obviously trading off with other parents).
Team Photographer – This position has been established to document the fun times, exciting races, and goofy moments of the team. This person can work with others to organize and upload files and to take photographs during the season. This can be split between multiple people.
Team Camp Setter – This job requires an adult to acquire campsites at races, tape off sections, and communicate with the team as to where the camp sites are located. This means you should be on site Thursday evening before the event and requires you to be on site Friday morning at the latest. The person who takes on this position should be someone who has been part of the team for a minimum of one year.
Extracurricular Activities BCSD Policy – 600 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS – Code 630
If enrollment in a specific academic or extracurricular program reaches the maximum for the program, priority for enrollment will be given to a student who is enrolled full-time in the public school class or program. If a class or extracurricular program is full and includes a part-time dually or jointly enrolled student when a regular full-time student transfers into the school during the semester, the District’s normal enrollment procedure will remain the same. Regular full-time students will be given priority for enrollment at the start of each semester and/or season.
