Wood River MTB Team Coaching Requirements


NICA-licensed coaches are role models and teachers who are open to learning the best practices of youth mountain bike
coaching and actively working to hone their leadership skills.

Level I Coach Requirements

  • Time requirements to reach Level I Coach – Four Hours
  • 18+ years old
  • Register at Pit Zone $25 fee – reimbursable by the IICL
  • Fill out participation agreement in the Pit Zone
  • Complete background check through NICA and the Blaine County School District
  • Complete Concussion Training and upload your certificate to the Pit Zone
  • NICA Philosophy, Safety, and Risk Management
  • NICA Coach License Level 1 (every two years)
  • Athlete Abuse Training available in coach courses (expires after 2 years)
  • Attend the WR MTB Team Coaches Clinic
  • Level I coaches can assist NICA Level II and III coaches on rides. There must always be one Level II/III with a Level I coach on all rides.

Level II Coach Requirements

  • Time requirements to reach Level II Coach – 22 Hours
  • 18+ years old
  • Register at Pit Zone $25 fee – reimbursable by the IICL
  • Complete all of Level 1 requirements. Annual renewal needed for:
  • Wilderness First Aid class completion (NOLS April 30-May 1, 2022)
  • Document 20 hours of field work for coach license renewal every 2 years
  • Attend On-the-Bike 101 (OTB 101) online and in-person class
  • Earn 3 CEU Credits every 3 years
  • Attend the WR MTB Team Coaches Clinic

Level III Coach Requirements

  • Time requirements to reach Level III Coach – 22-28 Hours
  • 18+ years old
  • Register at Pit Zone $25 fee – reimbursable by the IICL
  • Complete all of the level 2 requirements.
  • Background check through NICA and the Blaine County School District
  • NICA Coach License Level 3 (every two years)
  • NICA Philosophy, Safety, and Risk Management
  • Wilderness First Aid class completion (NOLS April 30-May 1, 2022)
  • Document 80 hours of field work for coach license renewal every 2 years
  • Attend On-the-Bike 101 (OTB 101) online and in-person class
  • Participate in NICA Leaders Summit (online for Idaho)
  • Earn 9 CEU Credits every 3 years
  • Attend the WR MTB Team Coaches Clinic
